Dear Parents/Caregivers,

Virtue of the Month:  Perseverance - O-tonu-tanga

I am successfully practising the virtue of perseverance  when I ….

* Think before deciding to commit to someone or something

* Pace myself

* Set goals and stick with them until they are completed

* Take one step at a time, remaining steady

* Don’t let doubts or tests blow me off course

* Stand by my friends and loved ones

I have perseverance.  I keep a steady pace in what I choose to do.  I keep on keeping on.  I finish what I start.  I am a loyal and committed friend

Student Led Conferencing

Please get your times in for the Student Led Conferencing to be held on Wednesday the 26th November.  Even if you have lost the initial letter, ring the school to book a time.

In order to encourage whanau to attend this most important reporting date we will give every family that attends a number which will be drawn on the 28th November.  We will have 5 mystery prizes each one with a $20 petrol voucher plus other goodies.

Study Support Centre - because of Student Led Conferencing there is NO Study Support Centre on Wednesday afternoon.

Lost property will be displayed on the stage on Wednesday.  Items not claimed then will be washed and donated to charity.

School Play

Unfortunately we have had to postpone the school play due to lack of time.  We are hoping to present it Term 2, 2009.

Instead we will have a fun sports afternoon followed by a free sausage sizzle and a performance by a few of the classes.  Events will start at 4pm.  Hope to see you all there!

Christmas Parade

We are hoping to put in a David Henry School group in the Christmas Parade this year on Saturday, December 6th.  We just want children, in their school uniforms, and their families to march behind the David Henry School banner.  More information will be in the next newsletter and we hope you will support us in this.

Sun Safety

As the weather is getting warmer we are noticing a number of children, especially girls, wearing inappropriate clothing to school.  Please remember we are a sun safe school and singlets, halter tops and clothing that does not cover backs and shoulders should not be worn.  If children come to school out of uniform and not wearing appropriate tee shirts they will have to sit under the shade.

Numbers

If your family is leaving the school (other than year 6 students we know that are leaving) or if you have or know of any children who will be starting at our school next year, please let us know in the office as soon as possible.  We need this information in order to finalise class numbers for 2009.

School Athletics

These will held tomorrow weather permitting beginning at 10am for children in Rooms 2, 3, 4 & 8.  Any parent willing to help would be very much appreciated. If wet we will hold them on Thursday.  Everyone welcome to come along and watch.

Interschool Athletics

Will be held on Tuesday December 2nd at Strathmore Park.  Children in the team will be given a note after our sports.

Thursday Trekkers

Remember we will be starting our coffee mornings for any adults joining our walking group.  Come and join us after our walk from the YMCA and have a cup of tea, coffee or milo and a biscuit.

Fundraising

Thank you for supporting the sale of Glow Sticks.  These are currently selling at school for 50c each or 3 for $1.00.  They are given out at the end of each day.

Xmas Raffle

Could children please bring along to school a donation of a non-perishable food item so the PTA ladies can make up a Christmas Hamper ready to raffle.  Drop off items at the school office please.  Thank you for your generosity.
